Ontario Wildlife Throws

Ontario Wildlife Throws is a series of large-scale Jacquard-woven textiles originally inspired by Algonquin Provincial Park. Each composition begins with the strong silhouette of an animal—drawing inspiration from ancient Egyptian art—situated within an Algonquin ecosystem. The surrounding landscape is constructed through a custom floral pattern depicting its plant life, often combined with cutaway views that recall the educational illustrations found in nature centers.

Layers of texture and pattern are interwoven throughout each scene. Some are generated from distorted images of weave structures, while others reference digital artifacts such as Photoshop layers, moiré effects, screen banding, and pixelation. These artifacts emphasize the translation of an image from digital file to woven cloth, as well as the continuity between weaving traditions and computerization. The pieces function both as throws for furniture and as hanging tapestries.
